PTSO GRANT APPLICATION GUIDELINES 2011-2012

Please download the application form at the bottom of this page in the Word format or PDF!

We encourage faculty, staff, administrators, students, and parents to apply for PTSO funding.  All student requests require a sign-off from a member of the NSHS educational staff.  Collaboration between constituencies is strongly encouraged.  Ongoing clubs and organizations that are fundraising for philanthropic purposes outside of the school will be asked to cover their costs before charitable donations are made. PTSO policies do not allow us to use PTSO funds for direct donations to charities. All grants are subject to the approval of the principal with input from the bursar.  Grant money awarded can only be spent on specific application requests and within the current academic year.

GUIDELINES: Proposals should not exceed 2 pages.  Approval is based primarily on the following considerations:

  1. The number of students/persons benefiting and the impact on those students and the school.
  2. Funding will be considered only after other potential sources of funding (e.g. department funds, fundraisers) have been pursued by the applicant.
  3. The ability of the project to continue without additional PTSO funds.  In most cases, funding is not provided for on-going support of programs.
  4. Grants cannot be used to fund salaries, stipends or for the purchase of core curriculum materials.
  5. New grants will only be awarded to past grant recipients if a final report has been submitted and is on file.
  6. Grant money must be spent on specific application requests only.  If there is a change in the request, the Grant Committee needs to be notified and will review the modifications for approval
  7. Grant must support and be consistent with school community’s values and goals.
• Is dedicated to equality and opportunity for all

• Expects integrity; responsibility; and respect for self, others, and the environment

• Creates a climate of safety and kindness

• Encourages communication and personal connections

• Nurtures curiosity, creativity, and a passion for learning

• Fosters self-confidence and success for all learners

PROCEDURES: Applications should be made to the PTSO Special Project Grants Committee, which reviews and makes recommendations to the PTSO Board.  This year there will be two rounds of grant applications: in November and in February.  In order to be considered for the first cycle, applications must be submitted by Monday, November 7, 2011.  Second cycle applications are due on Monday, February 6, 2012.  Applications can be downloaded from the Newton South High School website under “Announcements”, completed and then saved in your name or the title of the project.  Please send all applications as an attached Word document or PDF to grants@newtonsouthptso.org

The PTSO needs to keep records on how funds are spent.  Please submit a brief report no later than June 18th, detailing how the grant money was spent and if you achieved the desired original outcome.  Returning applicants will not be considered for further funding unless they have a final report on file.
